Micky van de Ven found the net twice as Tottenham prolonged their unbeaten run on the road in the top division and delivered Everton their initial loss at their new home.

Everton were unbeaten in their five previous fixtures at their new ground at the dockside location, having departed their historic home behind after 133 years at the end of last season.

But Tottenham's leader the Dutchman pounced on two occasions from corners in the opening 45 minutes to place their strong form at risk, and they were failed to mount a comeback before the midfielder - set up by former Toffees attacker Richarlison - nodded in a third to put the game to bed.

Jake O'Brien thought he had equalized the scores five minutes after Van de Ven's opener, glancing a powerful header past the Spurs keeper from an set-piece.

Beto, meanwhile, missed a number of opportunities, while Vicario made a succession of fine stops to guarantee the London club went five matches on the road unbeaten in the Premier League.

But the video assistant referee stepped in, instructing the match official to review the goal on the pitchside monitor and the official decided that the winger and the attacker were in offside positions and had interfered with the Spurs keeper.

The win moves the manager's team up to third in the division, five points off north London rivals and table-toppers Arsenal.

Everton stay 14th and are six points ahead of the drop zone.

Spurs breakdown: The defender excels in duties at each end of pitch

After a drab weekday performance in the European competition against Monaco, where they mustered a mere attempts on goal, the manager opted for Randal Kolo Muani up front instead of ex-Everton forward Richarlison.

The new arrival was failed to make much of an impact before being substituted for the substitute after an hour on the pitch, but it emerged he wasn't needed in the end.

Centre-back Van de Ven converted into an offensive threat to be feared.

The Dutchman was equally impressive in defensive duties, combining well with his defensive colleague as the pair handled excellently with the numerous deliveries thrown their way by the opposition.

Toffees breakdown: Everton lacking finishing touch

Everton's new home had been a fortress, but it appears the novelty may have faded slightly and supporters headed to the gates after the midfielder's third for Spurs.

The end in the team's unbeaten home run will not be a major concern for David Moyes, but their striker situation are.

The forward and Thierno Barry - the Toffees' pair of established centre-forwards - had netted only one league goal combined before the weekend's outing.

And they were failed to add to that miserable tally on a wet and gloomy night on in Liverpool.

The striker's performance was summed up when he opted to bicycle-kick a golden opportunity from near the goal, despite having room and time to reposition for a more conventional shot that would have tested the keeper.

Barry, as well, was unable to influence the game after coming on for Beto in the second half.

It wasn't for a shortage of opportunity. The majority of Everton's offensive moves came through Grealish and the forward, who tirelessly whipped dangerous balls into the Tottenham penalty area.
